How Many Calories Does Tough Mudder Burn?

Tough Mudder is about challenging yourself. It’s not a race; instead, it’s an intense period of training your body to be ready to be tested, followed by the 2-day official event of physical exertion and team-building. Participating in the whole process will alter your overall fitness and burn calories.

The number of calories you’ll burn is dependent on several factors, including but not limited to age, sex, height, weight, and physical condition.

But a reasonable estimate for the event itself is around 3000 calories (not to mention all the calories you’ll burn in preparation for the big weekend). Tough Mudder is a hardcore 10-12 mile (18-20 km) workout/ test of both your physical and mental endurance.

This course is not for the faint of heart. According to Fitnesshealth.co, a 155-pound person could spend 14 hours walking or 11.5 hours of biking to match the workout. Yet,  1.5 million people have done the course in over 100 events.

The Mudder Pledge is as much about helping each other finish the course as it is about proving your strength. Here’s the pledge straight from the Tough Mudder site:

  • I understand that Tough Mudder is not a race but a challenge.
  • I put teamwork and camaraderie before my course time.
  • I do not whine – kids whine.
  • I help my fellow mudders complete the course.
  • I overcome all fears.

Interested in feeling the burn and pitting yourself against the Tough Mudder course? Prepped by the Obstacle Innovation Lab, 2015 brings a new set of obstacles. You can participate on your own or as part of a team. There’s even a 1-mile Fruit Shoot Mini Mudder for kids. You can also attend as a spectator and cheer on the hordes of Mudders putting their all into the course.
