This is not the letter my family has ever dreamed of writing to you, our dedicated Podium pass holders and loyal 8-week program participants. It’s been a tough couple of weeks. And this past weekend, the Premier has extended all emergency orders until February 19th. It looks like now, the earliest MSLM could re-open would-be Saturday February 20th.
Effective immediately, MSLM will refund all 8-week programs along with all 2020/21 Podium Passes as per the details and refund schedule here.
This pandemic and its uncertainty along with the lack of direction from government have forced us to make some very difficult decisions. MSLM must balance fiscal responsibility with customer service. Decisions that affect our family’s legacy and the very future of our ski resort. Winter is not over. MSLM is not giving up. We will continue to work collaboratively with the Ontario government and Public Health but without more firm guidance and without a guaranteed Opening Date, facing the real possibility of further emergency order extensions, we have no choice.
MSLM is not a corporation. It is a family run business. My father Josl along with my mother Elfriede, started this ski resort in 1964. It remains operated by my brother Andre, myself and my wife Sarah. It is with great pride and joy that we want you to know our 4 children are involved. Our oldest sons, Nicholas and Jacob, in their early twenties, have taken on more responsibility this season, than ever before, as Project Managers with our new RFID system. Our 3rd son Lukas is following in his Opa’s footsteps and is happiest on snow assisting Snow School Instructors teaching your Ski Hearts how to “french fry” and “pizza”. Our youngest, our daughter Charley would have started working this season, in the cafeteria, clearing tables and washing trays following her older brothers’ tradition of turning 10 (Jacob wants everyone to know he was 9) and beginning to help, learn the value of hard work and find her place at our family resort.
Please know that MSLM staff have put an incredible amount of work into keeping you, our guest, safe this ski and snowboard season. We feel strongly that skiing and snowboarding is vital to your mental wellbeing and physical health along with thousands of other Ontarians. MSLM is honoured to have been the ski resort you chose for your family to create magical winter days this season. It is our greatest hope you will continue to choose MSLM. We are heartbroken and disappointed. If you feel this way, please write to your local MPP and make them aware of the negative and adverse effects ski resorts being closed in this province has had on you and your family.
And in closing, please follow public health guidelines. The only hope we have to save this ski and snowboard season is to lower COVID19 case counts. We cannot do it alone. It will take the sacrifice of all of us as skiers and riders adhering to these guidelines outlined by the Province. Stay home. Stay safe. Save lives.
With our deepest gratitude,
