Mount St Louis Moonstone Launches Testing with VSTech’s SmartPatrol Technology for Terrain Parks

Dec 23, 2019

"SmartPatrol is a first of its kind. It is an automated computer-vision service that monitors terrain park jump landing areas and provides a signal to skiers/boarders uphill when the landing area is clear”, says founder Sam Dugan, a mechatronics engineering student at the University of Waterloo and an avid skier.

General Manager Robert Huter says, “MSLM is committed to user safety in our terrain parks and throughout the resort. Sam’s invention uses state of the art technology and the resort is excited to begin testing his technology this season on 4 jumps in the Junkyard. While this tool never replaces park etiquette and Look Before You Leap rules it will hopefully enhance user safety even more.”

SmartPatrol is the first product of VSTech Inc. which uses a Nvidia Jetson Nano processor and a series of proprietary algorithms to harness the power of computer vision. SmartPatrol also captures video images and data useful in ski resort operations.
