Looking for a Perfect Ski Resort This Winter? Mount St. Louis is All You Need!

Ski hill Barrie

Nearly 50 years ago, Austrian alpine skier Josl Huter created the ski resort, Mount St. Louis Moonstone in the heart of Ontario. Years later, the family-friendly resort features 36 varied ski slopes and 9 chair lifts. You’ll find everything from ski lessons for beginners to advanced slopes for daring snowboarders.

Mountain Facts

The mountain features 170 acres of ski-able terrain with the biggest vertical drop of around 550 feet.  It includes 40 runs, with about 35 percent devoted for beginners, 50 percent for intermediate skiers, and the rest for advanced skiers.  The longest run is 2 km long. They also feature two super pipes, ideal for snowboarding.  The peak season lasts from December through March, and the mountain is usually open Monday and Tuesday from 9 am to 4:30 pm and Wednesday through Sunday 9 am through 9 pm. Weather permitting, night-time skiing typically opens in mid-December.

Ski Programs

No matter what your current ability is, you may wish to brush up on your skills, and the resort offers a variety of lessons and programs from children’s lessons to advanced adult lessons. Children as young as 3 years old can participate in skiing camps to learn the basics. You also have several choices in lessons from everyday skiing tips to taking advance lessons from Jim, the director of the snow school.

Snowboarding Terrain Parks

The Outback terrain park is infamous throughout Ontario for the daring rails, boxes, and urban staircases, you’ll find among this super pipe. Some of the most competitive snowboarders hit these trails, and if you’re daring and advanced enough, you may want to experience the thrill. If you’re not that daring, try the Junkyard terrain park, which opens earliest in the Ontario area and features super smooth trails with zero gravity kickers, and easier boxes along its Progression Pipe.

Skiing Rates

Beginner packages are available and include a beginning lift ticket, a one-hour group lesson, as well as a ski and snowboard equipment rental. A combination day and night package runs $69 a person. Daily lift tickets are also available. Rates range from $56 for an entire day or afternoon and evening to $65 for both a day and night combo. There are discounted rates for senior citizens and children. Children under five years old ski free with a paying adult.

While Mount St. Louis Moonstone doesn’t have on-site accommodations, you’ll find a variety of affordable accommodations nearby, including two Comfort Inn’s, a Holiday Inn, and a Hampton Inn and Suites. If you prefer a more luxurious getaway, consider staying at Carriage Ridge Resort, only 15 minutes from the mountain. The resort offers spacious rooms, heated indoor swimming pool, hot tub and daily activities.

With daily memberships, two base chalets with on-site cafeterias, and on-site childcare and lessons for the entire family, Mount St. Louis Moonstone is the place to be this winter.
