How to Dress for Barrie’s Ski and Snowboard Season

Fall is here in Barrie and most of us are in clothing purgatory—not warm enough for shorts, too warm for a jacket. Wearing snowboarding or ski clothing is a few months away.

But it’s never too early to start looking at next season’s gear. Some retailers have pre-ski season sales over the fall months, so you might get a great deal on a jacket or pants.

People new to skiing or snowboarding are always a bit unsure about how to dress, just as people new to the Barrie area may not know what to expect.

A great place to start is by using the interactive clothing guide. It’s on the side of most pages of our website. It’s simple, just select the temperature range on the side and it will add or remove clothing, as recommended.

If you’re traveling from the Toronto area to Barrie for skiing or snowboarding, you should know that our winters are, well, wintery. So be prepared for a lot more snow and temperatures that are a few degrees (sometimes 5-10 degrees C) below the weather in Toronto.

So always be sure to check your weather apps for the forecast and conditions when you’re planning to come out. You can also check out ski conditions here, or get a live web cam look at the hill here.
