Sustainability & Nature

Snow Matters—And So Does Action.

Mount St Louis Moonstone is dedicated to a greener (and therefore snowier!) future— The resort’s commitment to peak sustainability aims to transform our ski resort by 2030, setting new standards for the industry and leaving a legacy for responsible adventure.

We’re Committed to Putting in the Work

We’re not without flaws, but we’re committed to listening to underrepresented voices and understanding that sustainibility is an ongoing process. We are striving for progress over perfection.

MSLM’s Sustainable Tourism 2030 Pledge:

  • demonstrate our commitment to improving the sustainability performance between now and 2030
  • take full account of the resort’s current and future economic, social and environmental impacts,
  • address the needs of visitors, the ski industry, the environment and our communities

Each season, the resort commits to measuring and improving its sustainability performance.

MSLM’s goal:

  • become a responsible leader in sustainable tourism
  • recognize its positive impact far beyond our mountain, our business and the protection of our local environment.

The resort will set new goals and create measurable results every season to help safeguard the area we are all so lucky to live, work and play at.

Below you can find out more about MSLM’s recent 2023/2024 initiatives to help improve sustainability at the resort:

  • Planted 6,000 trees (1,000 Red Oak, 2,500 Norway Spruce, and 2,500 White Pine) to help prevent erosion in locations throughout the mountain during the summer of 2022 & and the resort planted an additional 6,000 during the Summer of 2023
  • Support local Not-for-Profit organizations that give back to the community through donation driven sales of messaging on the resort’s Adventure8 SNOWTRON, chairlift sales and other donation drive based efforts. In 2024 that resulted in a $9,000 donation to Orillia’s Sharing Place Foodbank
  • Amplify the voices of local indigenous groups and offer support through in-kind donations including to the Equiniox Drummers Circle and through the Josl Huter’s SnowSchool Academy Indigenous scholarship program
  • Installation of 5 FLOW EV car chargers in 2023 and 10 more in 2024 – totalling 15 electric vehicle charging stations
  • Continuous investment in energy efficient snowmaking systems
  • Investment in tier 4 diesel engine groomers which output less greenhouse gasses then their older counterparts
  • Partnership with Track 3 adaptive skiing program
  • Conversion to LED lighting in all buildings and chalets
